QUALITY, SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

Quality & Safety

KCS prepares project quality documentation to suit the contract, the applicable specification and the level of traceability required for the steel package.

01

Quality controls on a KCS package

Quality requirements are set by the project, and they vary a great deal between a commercial fit-out and a Defence or resources package. KCS works to the quality and documentation requirements nominated for the job rather than to a single fixed in-house standard.

Because fabrication and erection can both sit with KCS, the records follow the steel. A member fabricated and marked in the Holtze workshop is the same member the site crew installs, so material identification, weld records and inspection sign-offs stay attached to it through to handover.

KCS has delivered structural steel packages specified at Construction Category 2, and can work to the nominated construction-category and documentation requirements of a project.

02

Welding procedures and qualifications

Welding is carried out using appropriate qualified welding procedures by qualified personnel, in the workshop and on site. Where the project requires it, KCS maintains the welding documentation for the package.

Welding procedure specifications for the joints in scope
Welder qualification records held for the personnel on the job
Weld traceability back to the welder and the procedure used
Site welding carried out to the same procedures used in the workshop

03

Records, traceability and handover

What gets issued depends on the contract. These are the record types KCS works with on structural steel packages.

Material traceability

Material identification and test certificates retained for the steel supplied, so members can be traced back to their material where the project requires it.

Inspection and test documentation

Inspection records and test documentation completed as the work proceeds rather than assembled after the fact.

Project ITP requirements

KCS works to the inspection and test plan nominated for the project, with hold points built into the fabrication and installation sequence.

NDT where required

Non-destructive testing is arranged and NDT records are provided where the specification calls for it.

Fabrication records

Shop records covering the fabrication of the package, including match-marking and surface treatment where it forms part of the scope.

MDR and handover

Manufacturer's data records and handover documentation are compiled where contractually required, in the form the head contractor nominates.

04

Work health and safety on site

Steel erection is high-risk work. KCS operates within the head contractor's site systems and prepares the safety documentation for its own scope before mobilising.

Safe work method statements

SWMS prepared for the scope and submitted for the head contractor's review before work starts.

Lift planning and exclusion zones

Lift arrangements, crane standing and exclusion zones agreed with the site team ahead of the lift.

Inductions and site systems

Site inductions, permits and access requirements completed as nominated for the site.

High-risk work licensing

Erection work carried out by personnel holding the licences required for the task.

Temporary stability

Bracing and temporary supports held in place until the frame is self-supporting.
